Campaign Finance Reform

My campaign is committed to answering to We the People. We will only be accepting donations from individuals in the amount of $200 or less. Mississippi needs a governor who will answer to the People not their corporate campaign contributors.

If elected Governor, I would send a bill to the Legislature entitled the "Citizens' Clean Election Act." This legislation would publicly fund elections at the state level. It would smooth out the playing field so citizens could afford to run for office without the fear of having to raise millons of dollars.

This legislation currently exists in Arizona and accounts for less than one percent of the state's overall budget. It is financed by a one percent surcharge on speeding tickets, and it works like this. If a candidate wants to apply for state funds with a spending cap, they must first submit two hundred checks of five dollars each. This qualifies the candidate as having adequate grassroots support. It then makes it easier for your neighbor to run and not the local millonaire. We must return the power of our government back to the People.

Four Pillars

1. Ecological Wisdom - The Earth sustains all life forms. Whatever we do to it we do to ourselves.

2. Social Justice - The worldwide growth of poverty and injustice is unacceptable. We are working for a world in which all can fulfill their potential regardless of their gender, race, citizenship or sexual orientation.

3. Grassroots Democracy - The poor suffer the most from resource exhaustion and toxic pollution. All citizens should have direct participation in the environmental, political and economic decisions that affect their lives.

4. Nonviolence - Greens reject violence as a way of settling disputes. It is short-sighted, morally wrong, and ultimately self-defeating. We are working to end war forever.

The Dillon Campaign is committed to answering to We, the People. Any decision made by me as governor will be one that can be measured against the Four Pillars of the Green Party.

Environmental Racism

Grand Gulf Nuclear Power Plant in Port Gibson, Mississippi came online August 18, 1982. The Dillon Campaign has been given evidence that the People are being poisoned. Is it worth the money to rape our environment and kill our kids? Sherman Lee Dillon says,"NO! Close Grand Gulf."

The following is data from the Center for Disease control. Four years and five counties (Claiborne - 57% African American population, Warren, Jefferson Counties, MS; and Madison and Tensas Parishes, LA) have been analyzed.

Still Births (Gestation over 20 weeks)
1981-1982:  41 Deaths
1983-1984:  60 Deaths
+57.8% Increase
-6.1% Decrease Mississippi & Louisiana
-6.8% Decrease U.S.

Infant Deaths under Age 1 (all causes)
1981-1982:  55 Deaths
1983-1984:  67 Deaths

+2% Increase U.S.

Medical Deaths Age 1-44 (excluding accidents, suicide, homicide)

If this is only four years of analysis, what does it indicate for the last sixteen years? We must protect our children and their environment.
